IBF Super Middleweight Champion Lucian Bute retains his belt after defeating Fulgencio Zuniga yesterday in Montreal.

Zuniga who is from Colombia seemed to be completely out-matched by the Canadian Champion. In Bute’s last fight versus Andrade he survived a last round knock down with the help of the ref. Lucian wanted to prove a point and he accomplished that by winning every round vs. Fulgencio and then landing a devastating body shot in the 4th round.

The Colombian grimmised in pain but was able to get up at the count of 9, but was left in very bad shape. The Champ jumped on him right away and pummeled him with punches until the referee had no choice but to stop the bout.

This was a very easy fight for the Champion, I would like to see a rematch with Andrade. Lucian Bute was impressive but will he ever fight top-knotch fighters and will he ever fight outside of Canada again?

Great HBO boxing match yesterday between Juan Manuel Marquez vs Juan Diaz.

Truly a battle between a savy, experienced veteran versus a young, strong star. Diaz came out swinging for the fences and hurt Marquez pretty badly in the second round, almost knocking Juan Manuel down to the canvas. The body work by the veteran paid off dividend in the later rounds as he wore and slowed down the younger fighter which ultimately led to a spectacular knockout win!

Over confident Cristian Mijares stepped into the ring versus Vic Darchinyan and gets knocked out.

From the first round Mijares looked over matched versus Darchinyan’s powerful left hand. He got dropped in the very first round and seemed scared to continue fighting.

Cristian would not commit to throwing combinations or any hard punches as he was playing defense all night while Vic stalked him. I was extremely disappointed to see Mijares acting like he wanted to fight but running when it was time to throw punches.
